A popular summer celebration in Stevens Point gets underway later this week.
The “Riverfront Rendezvous” will feature musical acts including a former "American Idol" contestant.
As well as food, games, and fireworks.
Workers were busy Tuesday setting up tents, decorating stages, and installing food stands.
The fun-filled weekend begins with the Carp Classic Fishing Contest on Thursday morning.
"I think I saw the whole population of Stevens Point last time I was here," said Daniel Waterman, Event Organizer.
Another Steven's Point resident tells Newsline9 he's hooked on the fishing classic.
"I'm really excited, I get excited every year," said Randy Bintz, Local resident.
Workers put the finishing touches on three stages for the live musical performances.
There's country bands, rocks bands, bluegrass bands, even a funk band.
One of the performers Friday night is American Idol star Casey James.
James finished in third place on season nine of Idol.
"Getting the grounds ready today, tents go up, fencing, tomorrow we finish up with the food tent, some signage and we should be ready to go for Thursday," said Tom Schrader, Director of the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
Organizers say 70 extra picnic tables have been hauled to Pfiffner Pioneer Park to accommodate the expected big crowds.
Ron Otto was hard at work fencing off an area where the big fireworks show will be launched.
He says his plans for the celebration are simple.
"Bring the family down, sit by the river and enjoy it," said Otto.
There's no admission to the Riverfront Rendezvous.
Forecasters say the weather should cooperate with daytime highs in the 80's and a low chance of rain.
"It's a good place to come and see people you don't see all year," said Beth Vallin, Stevens Point Resident.
The fireworks show is set for Saturday night along side the Wisconsin river.
