Friendship man, 58, arrested in bank heist

MADISON (WAOW) – A 58-year-old Friendship man walked into an Adams County bank with a pistol, pointed it at the tellers and announced “this is a robbery,” according to a federal criminal complaint filed Friday.

Randy Glenn Paulson was charged with bank robbery in the July 3 theft of an undisclosed amount of money from the Grand Marsh State Bank in Grand Marsh, U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said.

Paulson was arrested Thursday in Illinois, the prosecutor said in a statement.

At the time of the robbery, the Adams County Sheriff's Department said the masked gunman fled from the bank about seven miles southeast of Adams-Friendship in a car owned by a teller.

According to Vaudreuil, the robber obtained cash from the teller drawers and demanded car keys from a customer in the bank.“The customer did not respond and a teller volunteered her car keys which Paulson took and left the bank,” Vaudreuil said.

The maximum punishment for the federal bank robbery charge is 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the prosecutor said.
