WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Hundreds of paddlers taking the course in downtown Wausau were trying to beat the clock.
It was a beautiful day for racing as the competition entered its second day and one of the racers was 15-year-old Cody Achatz.
Him and his younger sister, Erin are from Wausau. Cody is entered in four different races, which means he has to take the course eight times over three days.
On Saturday, he competed in the Open Citizens Race and the Youth/Senior Pairs competition. And Cody says his afternoon runs were the best he's had this weekend.
"It was really fast I knew that for sure," Achatz said. And it was a lot cleaner and smoother in all. It's just great to see older people getting the younger ones out because that's just going to keep driving this sport.
Achatz placed second in both competitions.
"I think the toughest part is just most of the time on races you want to go as fast as you can," Achatz said.
"But with how tight this course is you have to slow it down otherwise you'll get sloppy and the penalties will rack up."
