Teen sentenced to jail in Medford school threat

MEDFORD (WAOW) – A Medford teenager was ordered to spend 30 days in jail Wednesday for her role in the investigation of a gun threat at Medford High School in February.

Students told investigators about hearing talk of “doing a gun threat” and the shooting would start downstairs. A threat discovered in the girls bathroom led to massive absences and heightened police protection for a day.

Denarah Kitzman, who was 17 at the time, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor bail jumping and obstructing an officer. In a plea bargain Wednesday, Kitzman pleaded no contest to the obstruction charge and prosecutors dropped the bail-jumping accusation, according to online court records.

Taylor County Circuit Judge Ann Knox-Bayer ruled Kitzman's 30-day jail sentence could be served with work privileges, court records said. The judge also ordered Kitzman to pay $564 in restitution and write a letter of apology.

Online court records say Kitzman now lives in Ironwood, Mich.
