Some Wausau area students taking part in summer programs are focusing on the keys to healthy living. The students tended garden at Thomas Jefferson Elementary.
The school received a $4,000 state Farm to School grant. Last spring students planted seeds and since then they've been tending plants and looking forward to the harvest.
Renee Heinrich: "The whole purpose of the grant is to get kids thinking about planting and healthy living," said Renee Heinrich.
"It was fun that we were able to work on it," said student Leila Heuser.
Students held a tour of the garden for community members. In September, they play to set up a salad bar at the school and share their harvest.
