91-year-old Thorpe woman killed in crash

WITHEE (WAOW) – The Clark County Sheriff's Department says a 91-year-old Thorpe woman died Monday when the car she was driving pulled out of an intersection and into the path of a pickup truck on state Highway 29.

The crash, which happened at the intersection of County Highway O near Withee, killed Clara Sandel, Capt. James Hirsch said.

The crash happened about 1:30 p.m.

Sandel failed to yield to a pickup truck driven by Evan Warren, 26, of Menomonie, Hirsch said in a statement.

Evan swerved to try to avoid hitting the vehicle but struck it on the driver side,” the investigator said.

Warren was transported to a hospital in Marshfield with non-life-threatening injuries, Hirsch said.

Both drivers wore seatbelts, he said.

It is unclear whether Sandel went through the stop sign at the intersection or failed to see the approaching pickup truck after stopping, Hirsch said.
