Pat Hilpert of Stevens Point has been awarded a Jefferson Award for her volunteer efforts.
At the age of 80, Pat is involved in many volunteer community projects.
She founded a group called "Cheers" with two members and has since grown to over 70.
The group collects postage stamps for foreign missions, sheets to make blankets and greeting cards for those who are jailed or ill.
Pat also volunteers at Operation Bootstrap helping to get food to the poor in Portage County.
Once a month she also helps children at the "Turn of the Century" low income apartments by providing a lunch for them. At Thanksgiving she provides a meal and at Christmas gifts.
Over the past 5 years, Pat has started collecting unwanted or gently used toys for needy children.
She cleans them up and repairs them so they can be given to charities to hand out for the holiday season.
So far, Pat says 7,000 toys have been collected for children.
