Authorities say a crash Tuesday afternoon in Lincoln County killed a 24-year old Taylor County man and left his three-week-old daughter injured.
Investigators tell Newsline 9 an 18-year old woman who was a passenger in the car was also hurt.
Newsline 9 is not naming the people involved to protect the identity of the child.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on County Highway W in Lincoln County.
Wisconsin State Patrol says an alert was issued after the man took his baby daughter. Officers say they tried to stop the man's car but he took off.
Authorities say he eventually lost control, hit another vehicle, and went off the road.
Officers say the man was not wearing his seat belt. He died at the scene.
The baby and the female passenger were taken to the hospital. Lincoln County officials say they're expected to be OK.
Witnesses at the crash scene say it was a scary situation.
"You could see the one car in a ditch, it was really really bad," said Patrick Westberg of Wausau. He was driving to Merrill for a volleyball game. He says he saw the aftermath of the crash.
"It was one of the scariest things I've seen," said Westberg.
A section of County Road W was closed between Highway 64 and Center Road while crews investigated Tuesday evening.
