A 6-month old puppy is dead after it was shot in the head with a pellet gun.
Stacey Bell says she tied up her puppy outside while she got ready for school. “I heard him barking. I got out of the tub to let him back inside and by that time he was yelping," said Bell. She found her 6-month old puppy Jack lying on the ground, paddling his legs, and gasping for air.
She rushed her dog to Companion Care Animal Hospital.
Wausau Police reported to the animal hospital. “They just told us they have done x-rays and it looked like there was a pellet in the skull of the dog and the dog had to be euthanized,” said Capt. Ben Blevin.
Now Bell is looking for answers. “Everybody is still shaking their heading wondering why, how, nobody knows anything,” said Bell.
Police are making this case a priority. “It's disturbing that someone would do this to an animal who's one their own property so it is a priority for us. It's something that we understand the community is concerned about and we work for the community so it's certainly a priority for us,” said Blevin.
Jack had only been part of this family for a few months, but he already made an impact. “He was just like another kid. He meant everything to us. He was our first family dog. We got him for the kids and it didn't last very long,” said Bell.
The investigation is ongoing. Police say if they find the person who shot Jack, that person could be charged with mistreatment of animals.
