CRANDON (WAOW) – A 39-year-old Crandon man sexually assaulted or exposed himself to four children who were being cared for at his mother's day care center in Crandon, according to a criminal complaint.
William J. Anderson was charged Wednesday with six felonies – two counts of repeated sexual assault of a child and four counts of exposing his genitals or pubic areas to children – in incidents that happened between January and Sept. 11, the criminal complaint said.
The victims range in age from four to six, the complaint said.
The investigation began Sept. 11 when a mother alerted police to possible sexual misbehavior involving Anderson after talking to her young children, the complaint said.
Anderson told investigators that his mother had operated the day care for about 10 years and that he occasionally watched “the kids” while his mother would run to the bank, the complaint said.
Anderson admitted to incidents involving sexual misbehavior with children that happened “about 5-8 months ago,” the complaint said.
Anderson told investigators that he sexually touched two girls at least twice, the complaint said.
Anderson requested an attorney during Wednesday's court appearance and told a judge he could not afford to hire one, online court records said.
Anderson, who was jailed on a $50,000 cash bond, is to return to court Oct. 9.
