Woman spreads holiday cheer to thousands

Nancy Wilde's, 74, granddaughter Amanda is in the army
She has served twice in Afghanistan already and she's still in the forces
“Right now she's in Italy,” said Wilde. “But when she comes back to the state's she's in Raleigh, North Carolina."
Nancy wanted to help soldiers like Amanda., by giving them a reason to look forward to the holidays.
She brought boxes of cards she collected for troops to the Merrill area community enrichment center
"Friends and family give me cards, stickers for birthdays,"explained Wilde.
She collected them for two years. The amount she has now is overwhelming
"There's the 1,002 on the table here,” she said. “But I already have 50 on the table already at home."
She's signed all the cards. Many have little notes like 'to someone special' or even some jokes.
Wilde wrote all of the cards on her own.
Leaders at the Enrichment Center say they were surprised when she delivered them
"We had no idea that for the last couple of years she's been out collecting her own cards," said Jane Deau, the director of the Enrichment Center.
Deau says she hopes Wilde's effort will inspire others to give back
"I have a feeling there's a lot more people out there in the community that are going to take something from this effort," she said.
As she continues to get her cards ready, Nancy wonders what her granddaughter thinks of her collecting
“She'd say she can't believe it," Wilde said.
When all the cards are sent, Amanda may even get one from her grandma.
