Wisconsin is ready to take off in the Big Ten. Sophomore Melvin Gordon leads a stable of running backs for the 24th-ranked Badgers (2-1) in the conference opener against Purdue (1-2) at Camp Randall Stadium. Gordon's 159 yards rushing per game trails only Rutgers' Paul James among Football Bowl Subdivision schools. He ran for an 80-yard touchdown on his signature sweep play during last week's crushing 32-30 loss at Arizona State. Boilermakers coach Darrell Hazell says his team will try to stop the run and make the Badgers as one-dimensional as possible. He's also hoping to build on the promising play that emerged in Purdue's 31-24 loss last week to Notre Dame. Purdue is trying to snap a seven-game skid to Wisconsin dating back to 2004.
