MADISON (WAOW) - A 31-year-old Mosinee man was sentenced Tuesday to five years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of firearms, U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said.
Julian Alvarez pleaded guilty to the charge in July. He was accused of possessing three 9mm handguns, a .45-caliber handgun and some 9mm ammunition at his home last October, prosecutors said.
Some of the guns had been stolen from a store in Tomahawk, Vaudreuil said.
Alvarez was previously convicted of felony possession of narcotics, Vaudreuil said.
Alvarez has a pending case in Marathon County Circuit Court, where he is charged with second-degree sexual assault, false imprisonment, battery and strangulation and suffocation, according to online court records. He has pleaded not guilty.
Those charges were filed after a woman passed a note to a bank teller asking for help. The woman told investigators she had a relationship with Alvarez and he had abused her and threatened her with a gun, the criminal complaint said.
