Wausau Tile founder dies in California

ROTHSCHILD (WAOW) - Edward Creske, who started Wausau Tile in a garage nearly 60 years ago, died unexpectedly at his seasonal home in Palm Springs, Calif., the company said Thursday. He was 86.

Creske died Wednesday, just two days before he had planned to return to Wausau, said Tom Hale, the company's vice president of sales.

He was the founder and actively working at Wausau Tile,” Hale said. Creske's son, Bill, is now chief executive officer of the company, Hale said.

Wausau Tile, headquartered in Rothschild, makes concrete products such as planters, tables, pavers, benches and waste containers.

Creske started the company in 1953 in his two-car garage in Mosinee, Hale said. Today, it produces concrete products in a 400,000 square foot complex and employs 300 workers, according to the company's web site.
