A new app aims to help get young drivers ready for the road. Even parents are getting excited about it.
New drivers face distractions as they get behind the wheel for the first time. They may think they know the rules of the road, but this app is designed to make sure.
Antonio Alford is at the Stevens Point DMV, ready to take his on-road test.
"I just want want to get it over with so I can drive by myself," said Antonio Alford.
But before he took his test, we wanted to give him a bonus quiz.
The questions come from a new app, appropriately named "Wisconsin DMV Practice Driving Test".
The test poses 15 questions, such as when to turn at a red light.
The app aims to help young drivers get ready for the real deal.
After Antonio finished his quiz, we asked what he thought.
"It was pretty good, pretty helpful, you learn about that type of stuff already," said Alford.
His mother agreed.
"Anything that can give them an edge up and make them be better drivers is absolutely wonderful," said Tara Valenti.
D.O.T. officials hope the new app can help young drivers get prepared, before they hit the road.
"A lot of the drivers we're trying to target, the younger generation and really just about anybody, is more connected to their smartphones," said Kristin McHugh, Wisconsin D.O.T. Communications Manager.
But it's not just for teens. The app reminds even experienced drivers about the rules of the road.
"Oh I only got a 67 percent, that's not very good," said Valenti.
Not to worry.
She can take the quiz again and so can anyone else wanting to better learn the rules of the road.
"Today was pretty cool, I got my license and I got to be on TV," said Alford.
