Police departments in Marathon County are helping people dispose of their old prescription drugs properly.
The seventh annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday provided a safe way of disposal. The Rothschild, Kronenwetter, Colby-Abbotsford and Wausau police departments opened their drop box for people to get rid of their prescriptions.
Police say they want people to dispose of drugs the right way to avoid any problems.
“Many people flush their drugs and it ends up in the water system and you see higher levels of medications popping up so we're trying to be responsible and take care of those issues," said Michael Juedes of the Wausau Police Department.
Officials say the drop box is always open if people were not able to stop by Saturday.
