AUBURNDALE (WAOW) – A 74-year-old man driving a tractor was killed Wednesday when a vehicle hit it from behind on U.S. Highway 10, the Wood County Sheriff's Department said.

The man, from rural Auburndale, was ejected from the tractor which was pulling an empty farm gravity box on the “shoulder portion” of the westbound lane of the highway, the agency said in a statement. He died later at a Marshfield hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was a 55-year-old Plainfield man, investigators said.

Speeds for the vehicle and the farm tractor are undetermined and are part of an accident reconstruction investigation, the sheriff's department said. “Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.”

The crash happened near the intersection of County Highway K near Auburndale, investigators said.
