UW-Marshfield holds groundbreaking for student housing

The living situation for students at UW-Marshfield is changing.

School and city leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for the new student housing building.

Dozens of people showed up for the ceremony that took place across from the UW-Marshfield campus.

Project managers say the new building is expected to be around 28,000 square feet.

School leaders tell Newsline 9 that it will feature 100 different rooms for students.

"This is really an important part of what we're trying to do because we're trying to fill the void that exists in our community for students to have affordable housing,” said Marsha Barwick, Director of Applied Sciences for the Marshfield Clinic. ”This will keep them financially viable in terms of maintaining their expenses associated with pursuing their education," she said.

School leaders say the building is expected to be finished in August, just in time for fall classes to begin.
