Students spread holiday cheer to veterans and soldiers

A local school is spreading holiday cheer to those serving our country.

Kennedy Elementary School students in Junction City made holiday cards for veterans and active servicemen and women Friday.

The cards are part of an American Red Cross program called Holiday Mail for Heroes.

Organizers say they plan to give the cards to servicemen in both Wisconsin and abroad, and to veterans in nursing homes. Veterans also spoke to children about their experiences in the military.

"It brings tears to my eyes when they get it. I just wish that I could see the look on their face when they open it especially the ones that the kids made themselves and they drew the picture on the front. I think it's going to melt their hearts I really do," said organizer, Beth McBride. "It's a great program that the American Red Cross does and we're happy to cordinate events like this, it's just a wonderful cause," said McBride.

American Red Cross officials say they hope to mail the holiday cards December 7th.
