RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) - Texas Roadhouse raised about $10,600 for the Salvation Army food pantry in Marathon County during a four-day free lunch benefit last week, organizers said Monday.
The company says it served 1,319 meals during the event, meaning the average donation was about $8. The donation total includes 16 barrels of non-perishable food items worth $4,800, organizers said.
It was the seventh consecutive year that the Rib Mountain restaurant has hosted the free-lunch benefit for the Salvation Army, which is a unique event among the nearly 400 Texas Roadhouse restaurants in 48 states, said Kym Voorhees Raque, a spokeswoman for the company in Louisville, Ky.
"It was something the store managers wanted to do," she said.
Each day, people from various community organizations, including a church, a police department, a fire department, a woman's group and a college student group, volunteered to serve as waiters and waitresses for the benefit.
