The Fillmor Theatre in Wausau is changing owners again, set to become a church soon.
The Downtown Mission Church has only been in Wausau about a year, but leaders say they've had their eye on the Fillmor for a while.
Church leaders say they reached an agreement Tuesday. Downtown Mission Church plans on moving into the Fillmor in January. They say they plan on using the building for church services and music events.
"It's always been on our hearts to use that building as a church because we just saw it as an opportunity to connect with non-churchy people. We just thought it would be a perfect building to do that. Also just as a music venue, we see music as a great way to serve the community and connect with the community," said Downtown Mission Church Pastor Charlie Salamone.
Neither the seller nor the buyer has released details on the sale price.
But the new buyer did say $1.4 million in renovations have been put into the Fillmor in the past five years. He said Downtown Mission Church will pay significantly less than that to buy the building.
Newsline 9 reached out to the current owners for comment, but did not hear back.
According to a news release, the Fillmor Theatre will continue with its planned entertainment schedule for the rest of the year.
