UPDATE $6,500 in crack cocaine seized

Posted:

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) – Wisconsin Rapids Police say crack cocaine worth about $6,500 was seized following a traffic stop in which a Milwaukee man sped away, leading to a temporary lockdown of schools.

Devin Phillips, 26, was arrested following the incident Thursday afternoon, Lt. Brian Krzykowski said.

Police ordered the lockdown, which lasted about 10 minutes, as a precaution after Phillips sped off from the traffic stop, crashed his vehicle into a downtown building and tried to get away on foot, Krzykowski said Friday.

A search of Phillips and a west side home found 65 grams of crack cocaine and $3,000 in cash, the lieutenant said.

Krzykowski said Phillips was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and fleeing an officer. He was jailed on a probation hold.

No charges had been filed late Friday morning, according to online Wood County court records.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) – Wisconsin Rapids police say schools were temporarily locked down Thursday during a chase of a suspected drug dealer.

Detective Sgt. Casey LaBarre said the chase about 1 p.m. followed a traffic stop. The 26-year-old suspect fled the scene, crashed his vehicle into the Good Time Charlies building, ran away and was arrested at a home on the city's west side.

Schools were locked down for about 10 minutes during the vehicle chase, LaBarre said.

The suspect was later jailed on a probation hold, LaBarre said in a statement.

The man is suspected of trying to deliver cocaine and heroin, the detective said.
