Medical College names Wausau advisory board

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The Medical College of Wisconsin has named a 23-member advisory board for the new school it intends to open in Wausau in 2016.

Medical College is opening the school because of a shortage of doctors in the area. Northcentral Technical College will hold anatomy and simulation space, while Aspirus Hospital will hold classrooms and administrative offices.

The local advisory board members named Thursday were:

_Iddrisu Adam, associate professor of geography/geology and associate dean, University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County.

_Richard Bailey, MD, president of medical affairs, Riverview Hospital Association.

_Mike Beck, general manager/executive editor, Wausau Daily Herald.

_Steven Bell, chairman and CEO, WoodTrust Bank.

_Steve Bergin, MD, MCW Alumni Association representative, Aspirus Stevens Point Clinic.

_Marita Hattem, senior vice president of organization and service line development, Aspirus, Inc.

_Larry Hegland, MD, chief medical officer, Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital and Good Samaritan Health Center, Ministry Health Care.

_David Houlihan, MD, chief of staff, VA Medical Center, Tomah.

_Matthew Jansen, MD, director of medical education, Marshfield Clinic.

_Joseph Kilsdonk, AuD, MS, administrator of education division, Marshfield Clinic.

_Keith Langenhahn, field service representative, Wisconsin Counties Association.

_Daniel McCarty, associate professor, School of Health Care Professions, University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.

_Shelly Mondeik, vice president for learning, Northcentral Technical College.

_Keith Montgomery, dean and CEO, University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.

_Douglas Oba, associate professor of biology, University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County.

_Kevin O’Connell, MD, program director, Aspirus Wausau Family Medicine, Aspirus, Inc.

_Kevin Root, vice president and CFO, Church Mutual Insurance Co.

_Ron Skrenes, attorney, Anderson O’Brien.

_Peter Stamas, Jr., MD, vice president medical affairs, Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Ministry Health Care.

_Greg Summers, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

_Patti Thwaits, outreach coordinator, University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.

_Lori Weyers, president, Northcentral Technical College.

_Peter Yang, executive director, Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association.

The Medical College, founded in 1893, is Wisconsin's only private medical school and health sciences graduate school. More than 1,200 students are enrolled in its medical school and graduate school programs in Milwaukee.

The Medical College is also opening a regional campus in Green Bay in 2015.

The Wausau and Green Bay campuses are expected to initially enroll 15 to 20 students.
