STEVENS POINT, Wis. - UW-Stevens Point head men's hockey coach Chris Brooks has been named as one of 13 finalists for the Edward Jeremiah Award, given to the Division III Coach of the Year, as announced on Monday.

Named in honor of the former Dartmouth head coach, the award will be presented during the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Convention on Saturday, May 3, in Naples, Fla. The winner will be announced on Thursday, March 20 at the student-athlete banquet at the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship being played this weekend in Lewiston, Maine.

In his third season at UW-Stevens Point, Brooks has led the Pointers to the team's first Frozen Four appearance since 1998 and the team's seventh overall. UW-Stevens Point is 21-5-2 overall and the 21 wins are the most 1999-2000.

The Pointers have been ranked in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls the entire season and have been in the top five of both since Dec. 2. UW-Stevens Point is one of only three teams in the country to rank in the top 10 in both team offense (4.64 goals/game) and team defense (1.93 goals against per game) this season.

Former UW-Stevens Point head coach Joe Baldarotta won the Edward Jeremiah Award while coaching the Pointers during the 1993 season.

The Pointers face Oswego State in the Frozen Four on Friday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.
