Andy Meyer resigns as Wausau East girls coach

WAUSAU (WAOW) - For the second time in less than a week, a Wisconsin Valley Conference basketball coach has resigned with Andy Meyer stepping down from the helm of the Wausau East girls team.

Lumberjacks athletic director Greg Harvey announced the resignation Monday. 

“Andy Meyer is one of the true gentlemen in coaching. He worked tirelessly in the effort to grow the girls program here at East High School, said Harvey.
"He always treated his players fairly and conducted himself with only the highest level of character and integrity. Coach Meyer’s time here is greatly appreciated and we will miss his leadership.” 

Meyer leaves a struggling wausau east program after five years, having never won more than five games in a season. The Lumberjacks finished winless in conference the last four seasons. Meyer had a 17-96 record in his tenure.

Harvey says the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
