Pointers pitching staff showing dominance

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - Pointers sophomore reliever Luke Watson has been named the WIAC Pitcher of the Week.

The righty earned the honor after tossing seven scoreless innings last week, including Saturday's six-inning relief performance that led to a 4 -3 come-from-behind victory over UW-La Crosse in extra innings.

The Pointers pitching staff has some fantastic arms on it this season.

On Monday, 2012 WIAC Pitcher of the Year, Cam Seidl threw a complete game shutout against La Crosse. Major league scouts are paying close attention to last season's conference pitcher of the year, J.P. Feyereisen.

Head coach Pat Bloom says it's the overall strength of the entire pitching platoon that's a big reason for the Pointers 15-2 start.

"We have the last two conference pitchers of the year on our staff and they'd be number one pitchers on anybody's team in Division III baseball," said Bloom. "We've got another half a dozen junior and senior pitchers who might not blow you away or have dominate stuff like those top two guys, but they're guys who know how to pitch and know how to win. Whenever they go out there and put zeros up and have quick innings, our offense feeds off of that. I think we're that much better of a team because of it."
