WAUSAU (WAOW) – A Wausau mother has been named Big Sister of the Year for Wisconsin by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Laurie Frahm, 33, was recognized Wednesday for her “dedicated commitment and guidance” of her little sister Deanna Maruska since 2005 through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin.
Frahm, an associate video producer at Becker Communications in Schofield, is one of 50 finalists for the “National Big of the Year Award,” which will be handed out later this month in Dallas, said Linda Koepke, program director Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin.
Maruska is 18 and will graduate from DC Everest High School this spring, Koepke said.
Frahm, who is married and has one son born about six months ago, said she enjoyed watching Maruska overcome obstacles and gain confidence.
“I'm so glad that I decided to become a Big. Deanna is truly the biggest gift,” Frahm said in a statement.
