Tomahawk PD: Raid seizes 44 marijuana plants

(TOMAHAWK WAOW) – Police say 44 marijuana plants were seized from a Tomahawk home on Thursday following an anonymous tip.

Two people – Jamaal Wilson, 33, and Jessica Teich, 38 - were arrested in the raid following the execution of a search warrant, Police Chief Al Elvins said. No charges were filed Thursday, according to online Lincoln County court records.

Officers say Teich's daughter was in the home at the time of the search. They say she is now with her grandmother.

The police chief called the seizure of the marijuana the largest indoor home growing operating found within the city in at least 30 years.

"These plants were not just left to grow on their own," said Elvins. "This was a sophisticated operation. There were heat lamps, 600 watt bulbs, had a watering system in place. "

The plants were growing in the basement of the home, and the operation was sophisticated enough to include seeds to plants large enough to harvest, Elvins said. He says he's unsure how long the operation had been running.

Police learned of the operation through an anonymous tip, the police chief said, declining to elaborate.

The chief says investigators are still determining the street value of all plants. He says officers found about a half-pound of harvested marijuana in mason jars. He says that amount has a street value of about $900.

The chief says investigations, like this one, have a positive impact on the city.

"Taking drugs off the street of the city of Tomahawk has been one of our focuses, doing so we've reduced the burglary rate by almost 50 percent," said Elvins. "By taking these kinds of drugs off the streets, its effect made the city safer. "
