KRONENWETTER (WAOW) – More central Wisconsin cities are telling water users to stop running water from a faucet to keep underground lines from freezing.
Kronenwetter, Adams and the village of Friendship canceled run water advisories on Thursday, joining Weston, Prentice, Mosinee and Thorp.
In February, several cities told property owners to leave a faucet open with a stream of water the size of a pencil as a way to keep underground lines bringing water to homes and businesses from freezing.
At least 15 central Wisconsin communities, including Rhinelander, Weston and Schofield, asked either all or some of their customers to run water continuously to prevent frozen lines.
Public works officials said the prolonged cold drove frost lines deeper than had been experienced in years.
