Families countdown to Easter

Posted:
MERRILL (WAOW) - With Easter soon approaching, excitement is in the air in central Wisconsin.

More than a hundred families attended an Easter egg hunt in Merrill.

For Trina Lutzke her daughter, it was fun getting into the Easter spirit as they hunted for brightly colored eggs.

"My daughter is three, so she finally gets what we're doing," said Lutzke. "She gets what an Easter egg hunt is. We were really excited to get to come out today."

But many say the Easter egg hunt is just a small part of celebrating and preparing for holiday.

"Food," said Carly Imhoff of Merrill. "Tons of food, trying to bake things up in the week to get ahead of the game."

Some people say they're still gathering all their Easter supplies for the big day.

"I still think the Easter bunny needs to shop a little bit," said Lutzke. "We're a little behind, but we're pretty excited."

According to the National Retail Federation, the average person will spend about $145 dollars on the holiday.

For some people, picking up the meat for Easter dinner is at the top of the shopping list.

Owner of Townline Market in Wausau, David Jagler says this year, though, he's seeing more people stray from the traditional Easter meal.

"Because of the weather, a lot of times the tradition will change," said Jagler. A lot of times it's ham, instead of hams they're grilling out. They're buying ribs."

But after all the shopping and egg-hunting is finished, people say they know what they'll remember most about the day.

"It's a very special treat to hang out with both my kids, get up early, go to church and have a big family shindig," said Imhoff.
