Nekoosa man convicted of killing sister's kitten

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - A 25-year-old Nekoosa man was convicted Wednesday of killing his sister's kitten after he became upset because she wasn't home last fall.

Brian Sentkowski pleaded guilty to one felony count of mistreatment of animals causing death in a plea deal that dismissed one misdemeanor count of criminal trespassing, according to online Wood County Circuit Court records.

No sentencing date was immediately set.

According to the criminal complaint, Sentkowski went to his sister's house in the town of Saratoga on Nov. 27 and became upset because no one was home and because he was drinking.

He took out his frustration on an orange and white kitten, killing it with a knife and tossing it into a ditch across the street from the home, the complaint said.

The maximum punishment for felony mistreatment of animals causing death is 3 1/2 years in prison. But Sentkowski was charged as a repeat criminal, meaning punishment for the conviction could be more severe, court records said.
