Each year the WIAA recognizes a select group of high school seniors for their accomplishments as student athletes.  This year there were more than 800 nominations from 428 schools statewide.

Of the 32 student athletes honored, 16 of them have a perfect 4.0 GPA, and all of them have at least 7 varsity letters.  The athletes were awarded with a medallion as well as a plaque for their school's trophy case.  UW Green Bay women's basketball coach Kevin Borseth was the keynote speaker at the event, and five local student-athletes were among the honorees.

Assumption's Mary Sigler, Nekoosa's Lexi Brost, Wausau and West's Marissa Matushak.  While Owen-Withee had two seniors recognized, Albert Goerlitz and Bailey Karaba.

The scholar athletes say that being recognized for both athletics and academics is a culmination of all their hard work.
Goerlitz says, "It shows that all my hard work and dedication paid off, everything I did in sports and with my education. I just feel really honored to be here."
Mary Sigler agrees, "People usually just look at athletics, but now you're seeing both athletics and academics. So I think it's a huge honor to be recognized for both."
