Dean named for new medical college in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) – The director of an Oregon health education center was named Wednesday as the dean of the Medical College of Wisconsin's new central Wisconsin campus in Wausau.

Dr. Lisa Grill Dodson will provide leadership for the campus, which expects to enroll its first students in 2016, the college said in a statement.

Dodson has been director of the Oregon Area Health Education Center since 2006 and is an associate professor of family medicine at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

Dr. Dodson is a tireless advocate for student education and for care to rural and other populations,” said Joseph Kerschner, executive vice president of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is opening new campuses in Wausau and Green Bay to address the expected shortage of medical professionals in rural areas in coming years.

In  Wausau,
Northcentral Technical College will hold anatomy and simulation space, while Aspirus Hospital will hold classrooms and administrative offices.
The Medical College, founded in 1893, is Wisconsin's only private medical school and health sciences graduate school. More than 1,200 students are enrolled in its medical school and graduate school programs in Milwaukee.

The new campus in Green Bay opens in 2015.

The Wausau and Green Bay campuses are expected to initially enroll 15 to 20 students
